After Arvin High School graduation and one year of college at Bakersfield, I went to University of California, Santa Barbara where I got a degree and a teaching credential. During my junior year at Santa Barbara, Jeanne Pavlovic, her sister Judy, and my sister Pam and I went to Carmel for Spring Break. On the beach in Carmel by the famous "lone cypress" I met Jerry Colletto who was also there for spring break. Forty eight years later we are still together, married for forty six of them. After my graduation I got my first teaching job in San Jose while he finished school. We moved to Novato, Ca. when he got a job at Novato High School teaching P.E. and coaching football. We both taught in Novato (me in elementary) for thirty five years and retired in 2,000. Aside from teaching we had two boys Steve and Chris. We always traveled in the summers because we had the time off. Most of our trips were in Volkswagon vans camping and seeing the country. We especially loved the mountains. Once the kids were older we began to spend a lot of time running and backpacking. We ran marathons and trails all over California and got involved in endurance long distance runs. I paced Jerry on five 100 mile races through the Sierras from Squaw Valley to Auburn. After retiring, we moved to the foothills near Auburn to a town named Cool. After six years we decided we missed Novato too much and moved back there in 2007.
With more time on our hands, we got involved in tennis and tennis teams. We still compete in occasional mixed doubles tournament or team matches. We love to travel and especially love the little cities of Italy and France. We like to rent a car, stay in small inns and meet the locals. We ran a race in France put on by the French Foreign Legion and both won our age group. We got a trophy and a kiss on the cheek--or I should say both cheeks from the town mayor. Aside from teaching all those years and raising two sons, my proudest and most exciting experience was running the New York and Boston marathons.
We have two grand children, a girl, Aine who is nineteen and a student at University of California, Davis. The other, Kai is four years old and lives in Encinitas with Chris. We visit often and especially enjoy the beach near his place. Steve and his wife Sheila live in Novato and are our favorite tennis partners. I play with Steve and Jerry plays with Sheila and we are almost evenly matched. Jeanne Pavlovic Dodge and I get together fairly often in San Francisco. I take the ferry and she takes BART so it is easy for us to stay connected. I have been to every Arvin High School reunion and wouldn't miss them for anything. I am very thankful to the committee for all their hard work and to Carlos and Donna for maintaining this web site. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
