Delbert Scott

Dec. 23, 1942 - Dec. 15, 2006

Visitation begins today, Tuesday, December 19th, from 4-8 p.m., at Hillcrest. A graveside will be held on Wednesday, December 20th at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., at Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Avenue. Delbert Scott went home to be with his Lord and Savior December 15, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He is now rejoicing with his Heavenly Father. Delbert was born December 23, 1942 to Glin and Estelle Scott in Arvin, CA. He was the last baby born in the Arvin Hospital. He attended Haven Drive Elementary and graduated from Arvin High School in 1960. He attended Bakersfield College for one semester before enlisting in the U.S. Army in July 1961. He attended boot came in Fort Ord, CA and then served in Fort Riley, Kansas, Fort Irwin, CA, and finally in Germany from April 1962 to April 1964, after which he was honorably discharged. Delbert met the love of his life, and best friend and wife of 45 years, Cecile Church, while attending Arvin High School in 1958. They were married on October 21, 1961 in the Arvin Assembly of God Church. They had two children, Stephanie and Michael. Delbert was and always will be Cecile's "hero". Delbert began working for Standard Oil Company in September 1964. He enjoyed his career and met many people, some of which were his closest friends. After 34 years of employment, he retired in July 1998 as the head of the electricians and instrumentation department at Chevron Kern River Unit. Delbert and Cecile began attending Valley Baptist Church in September 1994. Under the leadership of Pastor Phil, neighbors, and Pastor Roger Spradlin, both Delbert and Cecile flourished and found a wonderful and very dear church family. Though Delbert was unable to attend many of the church services the past couple of years, he was very thankful to be able to be a part of the church services when they began broadcasting on television. Delbert was a quiet and gentle man with a wry sense of humor. He loved people and was a friend to everyone he met. He was a most generous man and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Delbert was preceded in death by his father, Glin and his grandparents. Left to remember him are his loving wife, Cecile; mother, Estelle; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Don Rickel; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lana Scott; grandchildren, Tim, Jonathan, Tyler, Jeremy, Alison, and Julianne; brothers, Dean Scott and Utah Scott; sisters-in-law, Marie Koch and Kathy Williams; brother-in-law, Tommy Church; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to his "breakfast buddies" Gary, David, Dick, Chuck, Rich, and Bill for always making sure he remained involved. Thank you to all the doctors who worked diligently to care for him. Thank you to his friend and focus care nurse, Janet. And finally, thank you to all the staff in the CCU at Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care you provided in his final days. You were all wonderful and greatly appreciated. God bless you all!
